Daytona Optomap: Cutting Edge Retinal Imaging Technology

The Daytona Optomap has [revolutionized] the way eye doctors conduct their retinal [exams].

This retinal imaging device, developed by Optos, is used for early detection of sight-threatening eye diseases, [tumors], and retinal tears and detachments.

Using the most advanced low-power laser technology, the Daytona Optomap device enables your eye doctor to attain instant access to panoramic, high-resolution images of your retina, located in the back of your eye.

With Daytona Optomap imaging, your eye doctor can also identify early signs of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

How Does Optomap Retinal Imaging Work?

Powered by a multi-laser ophthalmoscope, the Daytona Optomap generates images of up to 80% of your retina – in just 0.25 seconds and in a single image.

While most conventional imaging devices capture 45-degree images – requiring multiple images to see what the Daytona does in one image – the Daytona Optomap captures an ultra-wide 200-degree image with one flash. This eliminates the need for multiple bright and annoying flashes.

Additionally, while most retinal imaging devices only capture the central part of the retina, including the macula and optic nerve head, the Daytona offers a clear view of the peripheral retina as well. This enables eye doctors to assess difficult-to-see peripheral lesions on your retina.

The red and green lasers of the Daytona Optomap provide magnified and color-coded images of the different layers of the retina, allowing for easier and faster diagnosis of the range of retinal eye diseases.

What To Expect During Your Retinal Imaging Exam

While sitting at this imaging device, you will be asked to look through the viewing area and follow the light cues designed to guide you to look at the correct position.

Correct positioning is essential for accurate imaging, and once achieved, a mild, quick flash of light will let you know that the image has been captured. It only takes a fraction of a second.

Your images will be saved in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to be transferred into your personal file, facilitating easy comparison of your retinal eye exams over time. This will allow your eye doctor to monitor your eye health and identify the earliest signs of eye disease, enabling prompt treatment if necessary.

This quick and easy retinal exam doesn’t require pupil dilation and therefore allows you to immediately return to your regular activities without a second thought about the blurry vision and light sensitivity that usually occur following a dilated eye exam.
